Fallout 4 modders are bringing skills back to the wasteland By Ashton Herrmann 2017-06-30T18:16:34.18Z To the fans crying for more RPG in your Fallout 4, this may be the mod you’re looking for. A huge issue with Fallout 4 modding is the game itself is just not nearly as fun as previous Fallouts. Despite getting some great content in the form of weapon and armor mods many users find. Fallout 4, Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG became the first game on Xbox One to utilize mods on console. Mods are a coup for Xbox One users who want to alter their game, and there are mods for. So yes, FO4 is a RPG. I swear, I think half of the people who say they like RPGs aren't even aware of what that means. Old school, the first big market RPGs like Pool of Radiance, the story was the same every time, like playing out a DnD module, except on your computer, and with you in control of the (usually) 4-6 PCs. What mattered in those games, what made them replayable, were the characters you'd create because, well, because you were roleplaying. At the same time, text adventures split off from the even earler titles to focus more on the story. It didn't matter who your character was, really, all that mattered were the choices you made. And things persisted like that, for a decade or more, two separate genres. And then they started to be melded back into one another again, with some elements of one or the other genre predominant. Those with even a modicum of 'RPGness' about them started being marketed as having RPG elements. As far back as Doom, id was talkign about adding 'RPG elements' to their shooters (which finally came about with Rage). Best Fallout 4 Immersion ModsBut Rage isn't an RPG. I would even argue that The Witcher series is just a stats-on-steroids adventure series, with 2 and 3 tending more towards action adventure. Kingdom come deliverance how to fight. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. And the other big modern series, Dragon Age and Mass Effect started as pretty good 60/40 blends of RPG and Adventure before devolving into soap opera simulators. So, really, right now, the purest RPGs we have left are the BGS games, like it or not, but they are most definitely RPGs. That is, unless you want to redefine the genre so completely as to make its label meaningless. Nov 15, 2015 Fallout 4. All Discussions. Fallout 4 General Discussions Topic Details. Kind of like how karma worked, but this actually does something. Already in the game, this just makes it more New Vegas-y. (I kind of suspect that's really what you're asking for anyway.).- doesn't add any new systems, just allows finer control over your factions. There are a ton, and you can really screw up your game if you're not careful. But it is there and allows for more options, I guess.Best of luck. May not be a problem, but some people just prefer other kinds of things.Considering how it turned out in previous 3D Fallout games, simply converting the skill system to F4 wouldn't be a good thing at all, so it really would need gigantic amounts of work. The system itself just doesn't work good in fps environment. Maybe I'm a bit biased here, but I think that gameplay quality shouldn't be sacrificed for some arbitrary systems that just throw logs under your feet when doing absolutely basic things to feel 'less skilled in gunplay lorewise'. That something that player can perfectly emulate for himself. A skill that makes your ranged weapon swing a lot if you don't keep it high just doesn't work so well in a proper fps. There are similar problems with skills such as lockpicking - when you start to put a minigame instead of an rng based mechanic, there's a lot of less need for a 100-point skill to back it up.That doesn't mean you can't implement skills in 3DFallout again. It would have to be reworked to better fit fps game and I'm not sure if any modder would attempt that in the near future. At the very least Bethesda had the right idea with a perk-based system. It needs some tuning, but that can be done much more easily than implementing a completely new system. May not be a problem, but some people just prefer other kinds of things. And they are allowed that preference. The problem being though, at the end of the day, adding back skills and what not doesn't actually add anything to gameplay. Every complaint of 'fps' is wrong because of how completely the game can be centered on VATS. That is your 'skill based rpg'. And the complaints about VATS boil down to 'It is too easy to powergame FO4!' But that too is silly as it is absurdly easy to powergame FO3 and NV too, it just wasn't as apparent. Don't think that's possible on any level. Divine Rpg ModAs an example, NV has its faults and I certainly don't consider it a favorite of mine, but I don't mind Boone talking about his wife on repeat playthroughs, and I even feel an emotional response to something artificial, and Goodsprings somehow despite not having anything special, and being fairly tiny feels real for some reason; quick visits and you feel like you're home or something.Nick, I don't give a shit about your backstory, it was boring the first time. It shouldn't; the writing doesn't seem that different and the voice directors were both from Bethesda that I remember. But it just feels like background noise. There's just something missing in the writing, little details maybe, that you don't notice initially. Goodneighbor just feels dead compared to Goodsprings. Can't explain it.
